Visit the bookmaker's website or download their app, tap Register, and enter your phone number, name, and date of birth. Most Ghana-licensed bookmakers verify via SMS; you'll receive a one-time code to confirm your number.
No Ghana Card upload is required to place bets, but you'll need to verify your identity (usually Ghana Card or Voter's ID) before making your first withdrawal. The whole process takes under 3 minutes.
You must be 18 years or older under the Gaming Act 2006 (Act 721). Bookmakers verify age during registration or KYC. Using a fake age to register is a criminal offence and the operator can freeze winnings if they discover you are underage.
Not to register; most sites only need your phone number and date of birth to open an account. However, you will need a valid government-issued ID (Ghana Card, Voter's ID, passport, or driver's licence) when you request your first withdrawal. This is a standard KYC (Know Your Customer) requirement enforced by the Gaming Commission of Ghana.

Most bookmakers accept deposits as low as GHS 1. A few set the bar slightly higher: 888Starz requires GHS 10, and MerryBet starts at GHS 5. We list the exact minimum deposit for each bookmaker on our Bonuses comparison page.
As of March 2026, deposits to licensed betting operators are exempt from the E-Levy. However, the E-Levy (currently 1 %) may apply to certain wallet-to-wallet transfers depending on your mobile network. Withdrawals from your betting account to MoMo are generally not subject to E-Levy either, but keep an eye on GRA and MoMo announcements as the policy has changed several times.
Common reasons: (1) Insufficient MoMo balance (remember to account for any pending charges). (2) You didn't approve the USSD prompt: check your phone for a pending authorisation. (3) Network congestion: try again in 5 minutes.
(4) Your MoMo wallet is inactive or frozen: contact your mobile network. (5) You exceeded your MoMo daily transaction limit. If the deposit was debited but doesn't appear in your betting account, contact the bookmaker's live chat with the MoMo transaction ID.
Some international bookmakers (1xBet, BetWinner, 22Bet) let you run your account in USD, EUR, or GBP. However, if you deposit via MoMo, the currency is converted at the operator's exchange rate, which is almost always worse than the Bank of Ghana mid-rate. We recommend keeping your account in GHS to avoid unnecessary conversion fees.
Withdrawals
SportyBet is the fastest: MoMo withdrawals hit your wallet within 5 minutes, often instantly. Betway and MSport typically process within 1–4 hours.
International operators like 1xBet and BetWinner can take up to 24 hours on first withdrawals due to KYC verification; subsequent ones are usually within a few hours. Bank transfers take 1–3 business days regardless of the bookmaker.
It varies by bookmaker. SportyBet allows withdrawals from as low as GHS 1.

KYC not completed is the most common reason: upload your Ghana Card and wait for verification before requesting a payout. Other causes: bonus wagering requirements not met (check T&Cs); withdrawal method differs from deposit method; exceeding daily limits; or the operator is processing a manual review for large amounts. If your withdrawal is stuck beyond the advertised timeframe, contact customer support via live chat and reference your withdrawal ID.
Yes, most bookmakers have daily and/or monthly limits. SportyBet caps daily withdrawals at GHS 50,000. Betway has a GHS 30,000 daily limit.
International operators like 1xBet and BetWinner often have higher limits (equivalent of $5,000–10,000/day) but may require enhanced KYC for very large payouts. If you win big, the operator may split your payout into instalments; this is legal and stated in their T&Cs.
No, not at source. The 10% GRA withholding tax on betting winnings was abolished on April 2, 2025. Licensed bookmakers no longer deduct anything from your payouts before they reach your MoMo wallet.

Bonuses & Promotions
Most bookmakers offer a deposit match bonus on your first deposit. For example, 1xBet gives 300 % up to GHS 3 380: deposit GHS 100 and get GHS 300 in bonus funds. To withdraw bonus money (or winnings from it), you must meet the wagering requirement (also called "rollover"): for example, betting the bonus amount 5× on selections with minimum odds of 1.40.

If you receive a GHS 100 bonus with a 5× rollover, you must place GHS 500 worth of bets (100 × 5) before the bonus converts to real cash you can withdraw. The bets usually need to meet a minimum odds requirement (e.g. 1.40 or above), and you typically have 30 days to complete the rollover. Accumulators (multi-bets) often count if each leg meets the minimum odds.
Yes, each bookmaker's welcome bonus is independent. Signing up at SportyBet, Betway, and 1xBet and claiming all three bonuses is completely fine.
Just make sure you can meet each site's wagering requirements. What you cannot do is create multiple accounts at the same bookmaker to claim the bonus twice; that's called "bonus abuse" and will get all your accounts banned and winnings voided.
Genuine no-deposit free bets are rare in the Ghana market. Betway occasionally runs no-deposit promotions during major tournaments (AFCON, World Cup). Most free bet offers require a qualifying deposit and bet first.
Be cautious of "free bonus" ads on social media: they are often scams or phishing links. Stick to claims made on the official bookmaker website or app.
Common reasons: (1) You didn't opt in: some bookmakers require you to tick a box or enter a promo code during registration. (2) You deposited below the minimum qualifying amount. (3) You've already claimed the welcome bonus previously (it's one-time only).
(4) The promo has expired. Check the bookmaker's promotions page, and contact live chat with your deposit receipt if you believe you're eligible.
Legal & Licensing
Yes. Online sports betting is regulated under the Gaming Act 2006 (Act 721) and supervised by the Gaming Commission of Ghana (GCG). Operators must hold a valid GCG licence or an equivalent international licence recognised by the Commission.
All 20 bookmakers listed on BetRankGH are licensed. Betting with an unlicensed operator is not illegal for the bettor, but you have zero consumer protection if something goes wrong.

GCG-licensed local operators (SportyBet Ghana, MSport Ghana) restrict access to Ghana IP addresses and Ghana phone numbers. International operators like 1xBet, Betway, and BetWinner let you access your account from abroad, but you may be subject to the laws of the country you're physically in. Using a VPN to mask your location is against most bookmakers' T&Cs and can result in account closure and forfeited winnings.
First, check whether you've met all KYC requirements and bonus wagering conditions. If the refusal seems unjust: (1) Screenshot all relevant pages (bet slip, transaction history, T&Cs). (2) Escalate via the bookmaker's formal complaints procedure.
(3) If unresolved within 14 days, file a complaint with the Gaming Commission of Ghana, which has a dispute resolution arm. For international operators, you can also escalate to their offshore regulator (Curaçao, Malta, etc.).
The 10% GRA withholding tax that previously applied to betting and casino winnings was abolished in April 2025, so there is currently no deduction at source for either. Operator-side taxation does differ though: casino operators pay higher licence fees to the Gaming Commission of Ghana. As a bettor, this doesn't affect your payouts directly.
Betting Apps
Betway has the best overall app: fast, clean UI, data-free on some networks, and available on both Android and iOS. SportyBet is very lightweight (under 10 MB) and optimised for low-spec Android phones. 1xBet has the most features but the APK is heavy (~80 MB).
For a balance of features and speed, MSport is also solid. All these apps are free to download.
Google restricts real-money gambling apps in many African countries including Ghana. Most bookmakers distribute their Android apps as APK files that you download directly from their website.
You'll need to enable "Install from unknown sources" in your phone settings. This is normal and safe as long as you download from the official bookmaker website, never from third-party APK sites.
Most Ghana betting apps are designed for low-data usage. A typical betting session uses 2–5 MB.
Betway and SportyBet offer data-free (zero-rated) access on MTN and Vodafone networks, meaning you can bet without consuming your data bundle at all. Live streaming (when available) uses significantly more data (50–100 MB per match).
For most bookmakers, the mobile website is nearly identical to the app in terms of betting features. The app advantages are: push notifications for promotions and live score alerts, slightly faster loading (cached assets), and offline access to bet history. If your phone's storage is full, the mobile site in Chrome or Safari is a perfectly fine alternative.
Crypto Betting
Five bookmakers on BetRankGH accept crypto: 1xBet, BetWinner, 22Bet, 888Starz, and Melbet. 888Starz supports 50+ tokens including Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDT, Litecoin, and Dogecoin. 1xBet and BetWinner accept around 30+ cryptocurrencies each.
Betting with Bitcoin is safe on the licensed platforms we list. The main risks are the same as with any crypto use: exchange rate volatility and irreversible transactions if you send to the wrong address.
The Bank of Ghana hasn't banned crypto but also hasn't formally regulated it, so there's a regulatory grey area. For most Ghanaian bettors, MoMo remains simpler and safer; crypto is best for users already comfortable with wallets and blockchain transactions.
MoMo deposits are instant. Crypto deposits typically require 1–3 blockchain confirmations, which takes 10–30 minutes for Bitcoin and 1–5 minutes for USDT (TRC-20) or Litecoin. Where crypto wins is on withdrawals: some operators process crypto payouts faster than MoMo, especially for large amounts where MoMo daily limits become a bottleneck.
Yes. 1xBet, BetWinner, and 888Starz allow you to set your account currency to USDT, BTC, or ETH.
This means your balance, bets, and winnings are all denominated in crypto. This can be useful if the cedi is depreciating, but remember that when you eventually convert back to GHS for spending, you're still exposed to the exchange rate at that moment.
Responsible Gambling
Most licensed bookmakers offer deposit limits in their account settings or "Responsible Gaming" section. You can set daily, weekly, or monthly limits.
Once set, the limit takes effect immediately; increases usually have a 24–72 hour cooling-off period to prevent impulsive changes. If you can't find the option, contact live chat and request it; licensed operators are required to provide this feature.
Yes. This is called self-exclusion. All GCG-licensed operators must offer it.
You can typically self-exclude for 6 months, 1 year, or permanently through your account settings or by contacting customer support. Once self-excluded, you cannot open a new account. Some operators also support cooling-off periods (e.g. 24 hours, 7 days) for a temporary break.

Warning signs include: betting money you need for rent, food, or school fees; chasing losses (betting more to recover what you lost); lying to family about how much you bet; feeling anxious or irritable when you can't bet; borrowing money specifically to gamble; and neglecting work, school, or relationships because of betting. If any of these apply, consider taking a break, setting strict limits, or seeking professional help.
